TESTIMONIALS
Joanne Antman
Wahroonga
"I have known Adam Killiby and Ben Kohonen and their team from Big Build Constructions for more than seven years. They first worked for me in May 2012, prior to the sale of my home in Wahroonga, repairing or replacing damaged doors, window frames and skylights. This was done all in a short time-frame but with great care and attention to detail.
In September 2012, after moving into my new home, I employed Big Build to build a frame and timber and glass doors to enclose a laundry opening, a bulk head in preparation for a wardrobe fit-out, and various other storage solutions in the garage.
In December 2012, Big Build designed and built a large, low, spotted gum deck and three wide stairs off the back of my home. The company also replaced a single swinging door with a double cedar sliding door and screen out to the deck. This meant cutting and supporting a new opening through the double brick. I’m very happy with the quality, design, and workmanship of my deck which was completed in time for Christmas.
In mid 2013, I saw an unusual timber framed pergola in a winery in Victoria. I loved the style and simplicity of design, took a photo, showed it to Adam and Ben, and asked if they could build me something like that over my deck. From that photo, they designed and had made several sets of galvanised steel brackets and spacers and built a beautiful pergola with posts and beams in spotted gum to match the deck. They also built a timber-framed screen off the deck, lined with blue board, acrylic rendered, painted and mounted with a garden mirror and shelf.
Fast forward to 2019 and I employed Big Build Constructions to do some renovations to my home. They designed and built a fireplace to house a bio-ethanol fire, topped it with a custom made recycled Oregon mantlepiece, and also fitted the fireplace to the specifications outlined by the supplier. Again from just a photograph, the Big Build team also designed and built a recycled Oregon window seat and fitted it into a bay window on steel hairpin legs. Both the mantle and the window seat are extremely high quality custom pieces which were stained and sealed off site prior to installation.

New door hardware was also fitted to all internal doors (which, due to the handles I chose, necessitated replacing all the doors – I was happy to do this as I now have solid timber internal doors instead of hollow core ‘fake timber’ panelled doors).

Another custom build was a plinth made of medium-density fibreboard [mdf] to display a vase. The final piece of the project is a new set of hallway steps to be made more stylish with a longer tread and dark stain with a custom made handrail, again designed from a photograph.
I recommend Adam and Ben and their team for both large and small jobs. They are perfectionists who are very good at their craft. Importantly, they are across all the rules and regulations and applicable building codes. They are punctual, courteous, hard-working, neat and respectful. They also enjoy using their creativity and skills to create one-off pieces and are very good at problem solving."
